Shaq's Big Chicken

Shaq's Big Chicken was not a disappointment but did not live up to the greatness of Shaq's greatness. The ambiance inside and out by the patio was awesome but the food was above average at best. The chicken at its core was actually pretty decent. While the chicken on the chicken sandwiches was near perfect, I found my nuggets to be slimy to some degree and was a bit off. The fries need an overhaul as they weren't very good besides the sweet potato fries. The sauces were decent but most of them tasted pretty serious, the plus side was that you could go up and get whatever sauce you wanted in unlimited quantities. The drinks were actually quite pleasant. The multiple lemonades and teas they offered had a great taste and were sweet like how I like them. Their classic rootbeer and cream soda were also tasty. We ordered a few milkshakes and we came to the conclusion that each milkshake that had fillings such as peanut butter or hot fudge were too hard to drink. They all were consistently thick but the ones with the fillings were unbearable to drink. Overall we had a decent experience but they need to improve their sides.

Pilot Pete's

Pilot Pete's

I had a great time at Pilot Pete’s, a restaurant built into a small airport (Schaumburg Regional Airport). The chicken finger platter is their specialty, and it was delicious. Their honey mustard sauce and french onion soup are also amazing. The place is whimsical inside, with airplane seats, model airplanes, and other whacky decorations. The food was very solid, and the atmosphere was fun and lively. I would recommend Pilot Pete’s to anyone looking for a unique dining experience

Tacos Buscados

Tacos Buscados

Tacos Buscados is a newly opened taco joint located on the northwest side of Chicago. We here at The Chicago Report decided to check it out and support the new local and small businesses. The place is very small inside so there is limited seating inside but outside they do have two tables set up and ready to go for those sunny summer days. Joseph and I decided to try their signature California-style burrito which consists of cheese, fries, sour cream, guacamole, and your choice of protein (steak, chicken, ground beef, barboca, or veggies). These burritos were huge and had great taste. We both easily ranked these as their best product. We then also both tried their steak tacos. While on the smaller size, they pack flavor and were overall decent. As a side, we both ordered a cheese and beef empanada. While we agree the beef empanada was the best of the two, the race was pretty close. Really great fried dough on the outside and tasty beef and melted cheese on the inside. For dessert, we had horchata and a churro. The horchata was on the smaller side and didn't contain any ice. Overall it was average. On the other hand, the churro was great. It was a freshly made churro that had every quality you would want for a churro. A nice crunchy cinnamon shell with a hot and sweet filling on the inside. Overall, Tacos Buscados is a place we would love to return to.

Ricobene’s

Ricobene's

Ricobene's is a staple of the southside of Chicago. I have many fond memories of going to Ricobene's before or after White Sox games. While their menu consists of Italian-American food, one of the items stands out from the rest. Their breaded steak sandwich is possibly one of the best sandwiches in Chicago and also in the world. Everyone at The Chicago Report on our latest trip there had the famous breaded steak sandwich. We all agree it's one of the best things you could eat in the city. Juicy breaded steak on a French roll served with melted mozzarella cheese and giardiniera. This sandwich gives Ricobene's a high score alone but the other menu items are just as good. Their wings are big, juicy, tender, and loaded with sauce. The Italian sausage sandwich is just as good as anywhere else in Chicago. Even their Italian ice is at an elite level. Everyone needs to make at least one stop at this iconic Chicago staple.
